How to Play

Getting started

What is Brainclash?

Brainclash is a 1-vs-1 trivia game. You and one opponent answer the same questions and see who knows more. Matches are turn-based, so you don’t both have to be online at the same time.

Is Brainclash free?

Yes, it’s free to play. You earn Gems by watching rewarded ads and spinning the daily wheel.

What languages can I play in?

Brainclash is available in several languages. Whichever one you use, both players always get the same questions, so a match stays fair.

Is cheating allowed?

No. Cheating, or using any illegitimate method to get the answers, isn’t allowed and may get your account banned.

How do I start a match?

Three ways. Challenge a friend directly, get matched with a random human player, or play the bot if you just want to practice. Friend challenges and random matches cost a few Gems each. The bot is free.

How does a match work?

A match runs over four rounds. At the start of each round, one player picks a category and you both answer the same five questions; the category choice alternates between you. You get 20 seconds per question, and running out of time counts as a wrong answer. These numbers may change as we balance the game.

How do I win?

You win a round by getting the most correct answers; if you tie, the faster player takes it. You win the match by winning the most rounds. If that’s level, we look at total correct answers, and if that’s still tied, overall speed decides it. Speed only ever breaks a tie.

Gems

How do I get Gems?

Two ways right now: watch a rewarded ad, or spin the daily wheel. You start with a small balance when you sign up. Gem packs you can buy are planned for later, but they’re not live yet.

What do I spend Gems on?

Challenging a friend, starting a random match, and the three in-match helpers. You also spend Gems to change your username and to remove ads. That’s it.

Why don’t I get Gems for winning?

On purpose. If winning paid out Gems, people would farm easy matches and rig results, and the game stops being fair. Keeping Gems out of the win reward keeps matches honest.

The daily wheel

What does the wheel give and how often?

The wheel gives Gems, once per day. It resets at the start of each day.

Ads

What’s the difference between the two kinds of ads?

Rewarded ads are your choice: you watch one when you want to, and you get Gems for it. The ads that play between rounds are automatic and give nothing, they’re just part of keeping the game free.

How do I remove ads?

Buy remove-ads with Gems. It suppresses the between-round ads for a limited time. Rewarded ads still work, so you can keep earning Gems while it’s active.

Helpers

What are helpers and how do they work?

Helpers are three in-match boosts, and you get one use of each per match. 50:50 removes two wrong options, “change the question” swaps the current question for a new one, and “extend time” gives you more seconds to answer. Each one costs Gems, and the bot never uses them.

Friends & chat

How do I add a friend?

By username. Search for their username and send the request; once they’re added you can challenge them directly.

Can I chat?

Yes, you can have 1-to-1 chats with friends outside of matches (messages have a length limit). If someone’s bothering you, block them and contact is cut both ways.

Levels & stats

What are XP and levels?

You earn XP for correct answers, and harder questions are worth more. Your XP builds up your level. The level is just cosmetic, it doesn’t unlock perks or give you any edge in a match.

Bot & random matches

What’s the bot match?

It’s practice against the computer. Pick a difficulty and play as much as you want, no opponent needed. It’s a good way to warm up or try a category you’re unsure about.

Why does the bot match give no Gems or stats?

Bot matches are isolated practice. They don’t earn XP or Gems and don’t touch your human stats, so nothing you do against the computer affects your real record.

Account

How do I change my username?

From your account settings. It costs a few Gems, so pick a name you’ll want to keep.

How do I delete my account?

From the settings inside the app. Deletion is immediate and permanent, there’s no grace period and no recovery, so be sure before you confirm. Messages you sent to others stay visible to them, labeled as “deleted user”.

The account deletion page walks through it step by step.
